Ford should have brought the Falcon to the USA

Seriously boys and girls this car would have sold like hot cakes in the USA. You know it I know it. Australia you may be losing your car industry but you sure as hell have some mighty fine bespoke cars

The original Falcon would have not sold compared to the Mustang and Torino, but the 1998+ falcon should have been Lincoln's premier car, but with a nicer interior and different fascia, instead of the Town Car or the Continental. Moreover, the MKS and MKZ wouldn't need to be around if they had marketed it upscale over top of the LS.

A Ford Falcon XB is on the very short list of cars I would drop the Montego in a SECOND to be able to own. I love them so much

I agree with a lot of what you're saying but I think the Falcon is cooler looking than the Torino, which is an ODD thing for me of all people to say. These were built further into the 70s while maintaining their looks. I'd rather have a 73 Falcon than a 73 Torino.

Can't compete with Hellcat. Hellcat is love. Hellcat is life.

The Falcon also never got the big block motors, wasn't the 351 the largest they ever got?

I believe they had a 351 Cleveland in them, and I just so happen to LOVE the 351 Cleveland.

Totally agree with you on the Lincoln thing. However I think the Falcon could have done well against its muscle car counterparts. I mean just look at the mopar lineup.

I want it's big brother from the late 60s and early 70s although the original Falcon was indeed a peach

We needed a base model Falcon RWD V8 sedan in 2004. 2004 was the year we needed it.

Where were you then!?

They just look so so excellent. You would know more than me but did the Torino and Falcon share a similar platform?

I actually can't say yes or no. I would imagine it shared a Torino/Fairlane platform from the US but I really don't have any information. I know that into the 70s they started using smaller ported heads on the 351 Cleveland so finding a big port headed car is a big deal performance wise (not that you couldn't do a head swap lol, but for stock purposes.).

The Falcon in the US went smaller where as the Torino/Fairlane would be similar sizes to this car.

Example, 1971 Ford Torino Cobra Jet:

Modern Falcon aimed at taking down the Charger/Hellcat would be wondrous.

I figured in some ways they were similar. I would probably have a hard time choosing a Torino over a Falcon of similar time. The Falcon had a good blind of Mustang with Torino body style.

One of the big bonuses to Torino over Falcon (besides the rare factor) is you can get Torino's with BIG BLOCKS but Falcon's never had them. (at least this era).

Lightness= better handling. Although I am sure both would still hit a tree

haha.

I am mildly obsessed with 351C motors and think they are simply awesome so I'd never have a complaint about one in there.

I have so much fun with my little 302 in the Montego that I can't imagine it being a complaint that I didn't have a big block. Always had a soft spot for the XB Falcon GT 351.

They ARE legal to import now thanks to being old enough, so if you got the cash you can have a Falcon!

There wasn't much of a place for it in the US lineup in the '70s, but the more recent Falcons could have attracted a following. Unfortunately, importing from Australia would have made them unprofitable loss-leaders and tooling up a North American plant would have still doomed Ford Australia.
